How can you avoid water borne diseases?

Drinking water from a water purification system has become a norm. Parents are relying on water purification systems for clean drinking water. Hygiene is the ultimate gateway of being healthy. And purified water has made its place in our living. People are opting for contemporary methods rather than traditional purification systems.

Pollutants in drinking water can no longer be practically ignored. These harmful contaminants pollute drinking water and cause many diseases. Toddlers especially are severely affected by these diseases.

Good Health and well-being of kids and the elderly are some of the primary concerns of parents today. With the increase in the number of water-borne diseases, parents are relying on water purification systems for clean drinking water.

Where do the pollutants come from?

1) Due to heavy industrialization, harmful wastes by factories are often dumped either in the air or directly in water.
2) Water pipelines that distribute water are often rusted or leaking. When water comes in contact with such pipe-lines, they are contaminated.
3) Our over-reliance on the usage of pesticide, insecticide and fertilizers has led to water pollution. Harmful chemicals from pesticides seep through the soil and come in contact with the ground water.
4) Improper water storage by municipal bodies also leads to water contamination.

Impurities can be classified into two parts -

1) Suspended Impurities - Physical impurities which remain suspended in water such as dust, sand, dead insects and harmful micro-organisms like bacteria, viruses and cyst are termed as suspended impurities. They lead to discoloration of water and could also cause diseases.
2) Dissolved Impurities - These are the chemical impurities which get dissolved and mixed with water. They cannot be removed by simple filtration techniques and require advance technology for removal. Chemicals like, rust, pesticides, insecticides and salts of metals like arsenic, fluoride, iron, calcium etc. are included in these impurities.

Elimination of both these impurities using simple methods like boiling, cloth filtration and adding chlorine to water is not sufficient. Using advanced water purifiers, such as the ones that use a combination of RO+UV+UF+TDS control can be more helpful. Water purification devices like these not only remove impurities but also retain all-important minerals.

While purchasing a water filter, ensure that you pay attention to the below mentioned points:

1) The purification capacity.
2) The technology used i.e. Reverse Osmosis, Ultra Violet (UV), Gravity based UF etc.
3) Wall mountable, table top or under the counter fitted.
4) Power source used.

Water purification processes by such advanced technology are essential in preventing diseases caused by water. Kent, one of India’s top brands has facilitated and contributed in providing these advanced machines for the safe consumption of water for humans.
